6 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Machame Route Tour
6 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Machame Route Tour Overview
The easier Marangu route is called the Coca Cola route, while the harder Machame route is called the Whiskey route because it is known to be a hard climb. On the Marangu Route, the slope is gradual, and climbers stay in huts. On the Machame route, climbers walk steeper trails for longer distances and sleep in tents. The Machame Route up Mount Kilimanjaro can be done in at least six days. Most people, though, do it over seven days so they can get used to the altitude better. The trek starts at Machame Gate, which is in the lush, fertile rain forest at the southern base of the mountain. The path goes toward the Shira Plateau and then circles halfway around the mountain on the southern circuit. This gives the climber a chance to see great views from all sides. From the east, you can get to the top, and the Mweka trail is used to get back down
Detailed Itinerary
You’ll meet our Mangokili Adventures driver at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and he’ll take you to your hotel in Moshi town. There, you’ll meet your guide, who will tell you about your upcoming hike and check your gear to make sure you have everything you need for the mountain. You can rent the gear you forgot on this day.
Spend the night at Lindrin lodge or Park view hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included.
We drive for an hour from Moshi to Machame gate, where we fill out paperwork, meet our porters, and start to climb. The first part of the trail steadily goes uphill and goes through a beautiful, dense rainforest. This path doesn’t get used as much, so it can get a little overgrown in spots and is often wet and muddy.
10.8 km (6.7 mi) has been traveled.
It should take about 6 hours.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
Our path keeps going up through the forest until we reach the steep climb up to the Shira Plateau. From there, we can see the mountain, which is a nice reward. When you turn around and look back, you will see Mt. Meru rising high above Arusha town.
The distance covered is 5.4 km (3.4 mi), and it should take about 5 hours. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included in the price.
Now that you’re walking on high moorland, the whole feel of the trek has changed. We walk around the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, under the Lava Tower and the last part of the Western Breach, until we reach camp. We spent the day at a high altitude (up to 4600m), but we followed the mountaineering rule of “walk high, sleep low” to help your body get used to the high altitude.

It took about 8 hours.
Included in the price are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We start our day by going down into the Great Barranco, which is a big gorge. Then, we climb steeply up the Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeast slopes of Kibo. It’s not hard, but it’s a long and tiring climb over rocks. We walk under the Heim and Kersten glaciers on our way to the Karanga valley, which is our last place to get fresh water before reaching the top. As we walk through dry, empty land to reach Barafu camp, the ground is now made of scree.
The distance covered was about 8.5 km (5.3 mi), and it took about 8 hours.
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included.
We leave around midnight and walk steeply up to the glaciers at the top. We will climb scree for 4 to 5 hours, but we will gain a lot of height in a short distance. There are beautiful views. When the first sun rays hit us, we should be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739m). We are surrounded by spectacular ice cliffs inside the crater, and the views of jagged Mawenzi peak and the rest of the area are breathtaking. We walk for another hour to reach the top, Uhuru Peak (5895m). We start our descent by going back to Stella Point. From there, we go down the scree slope and track to Barafu Camp for breakfast. After that, we go down to Millennium Camp for a long, well-deserved rest.
13.4 km (8.3 mi) have been traveled.
12–15 hours is about how long it will take.
Included in the price are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
We take a gentle walk through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where we finish up with park paperwork and get certificates that you can hang up with pride. Then, our vehicles pick us up and take us back to the hotel in Moshi, where you can enjoy a hot shower.
The distance covered is 12.1 km (7.5 mi), and the trip should take about 6 hours. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the price.
