Accommodation Budget: Tulia Boutique Hotel / Forest Hill Hotel
Your personal Tanzania Safari tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha in the morning. On the way to Tarangire, you drive on a good tarmac road through the Masai plains, which have acacia trees here and there. On the way, you’ll see a lot of Masai dressed in their colorful clothes walking along the side of the road, riding bicycles, herding their cattle, and pulling donkey carts. People know Tarangire National Park for its large groups of elephants. You will look for animals like zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe from the open roof of the vehicle as you drive through seasonal swamps, savanna, and the Tarangire River. You might catch a glimpse of a lion stalking its prey or a leopard watching from a tree and relaxing. After a long game drive where you see and hear many different things in the wilderness, you will leave the park and go to a nearby campsite for dinner and the night.
Accomodation: Migombani Campsite
After breakfast, you will keep going toward the rich highlands where the Iraqw people grow wheat, coffee, and corn. You can see the beautiful Ngorongoro Crater as you pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on your way to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by noon. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania. It has many different types of landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. Here is where the largest migration of wildebeests and zebras takes place. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to see thousands of animals on their way to find food and water. After a long game drive, you’ll drive to your campsite, where you’ll eat dinner and sleep for the night.
Accomodation: Nyani Campsite
There will be more game drives in Serengeti National Park for the whole day. The Serengeti is home to many different kinds of animals, such as impalas, buffalo, crocodiles, and hippos. However, it is best known for the huge herds of zebras and wildebeest that move through it every year. The animals move based on how much rain there is, which changes from year to year. In November and December, animals move from the north, where there are mostly forests and hills, to the south, where there are grassy plains. From April to June, when it rains more, they go back to the north. Aside from the migrating herds, you might also see leopards, cheetahs, and lions, which are always nearby and ready to attack.
After an amazing day, you’ll go back to your campsite for dinner and to sleep for the night.
Accomodation: Nyani Campsite
You will go on another game drive in the Serengeti after a quick breakfast. Before you go to the Ngorongoro Crater, you might be able to see the “Big Five,” which are the lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard. The animals roam freely in the unfenced reserves, so you can watch them without any interruptions. When you get to the edge of the crater, you’ll get your first look at what you’ll see the next day: sparkling streams, open grassland, and a lot of animals. You will spend the night at a campsite right on the edge of the crater. As you drift off to sleep, the orange glow of the setting sun will be all around you.
Accomodation: Simba Campsite
Early risers get to see the sun rise over the edge of the crater, which is a beautiful sight. After a hearty breakfast, you will drive down the exciting track into the crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was made millions of years ago. It is 610 meters deep and covers about 260 square kilometers. Because there are so many animals there (about 25.000), the crater is the best place in Tanzania to see wildlife. You can see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants, and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area in just a few minutes. With a little luck, you might be able to see a rare black rhino through the tall grass.
After lunch, you’ll climb the steep crater walls and head to your campsite for dinner and the night.
Accomodation: Migombani Campsite
After breakfast, you’ll drive to Lake Manyara National Park, the last stop on this epic safari. This park is 120 km west of Arusha and is small but has a lot to offer. A shallow salt lake gives the park its name. It floods and dries up with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos and more than 500 other bird species. As you walk through the park, you might see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants, and, if you’re lucky, lions relaxing in the trees. The park is known for its many different kinds of landscapes, including grassy plains, woods with primates, and cliffs with baobab trees.
After seeing a lot of animals in the park, you’ll head back to Arusha. You’ll get there in the early evening. Depending on what you want to do, our driver will be ready to take you to the airport for your flight to Zanzibar or back home.
